How to choose the right skip size for home renovations

If you’re planning home renovations, then now would be a good time to start thinking about hiring a skip. Skips come in all different sizes suitable for small projects and larger scale construction plans. Choosing the right skip size to begin with will help you stay within budget, especially if you have an idea of how much waste you’re expecting to get rid of.

If you’re doing light renovations around the home like changing up the bedroom décor or a shed clear out, then a mini skip, which is around 2 yards would usually suffice for this type of work. For bigger renovations which you’re planning on knocking down walls, or a doing full kitchen refit, you will need a larger skip size. A midi sized skip or builder’s skip can usually hold more rubbish and is great for bigger projects.

It’s also a good idea to understand what type of materials you are looking to throw away. Some materials such as rubble, bricks, tiles, and hardcore are heavy waste which you’ll need a much bigger and suitable skip to avoid it being overloaded.

For renovations around the home, it is also important to know where exactly you are looking to place the skip. Smaller skips can often be placed on private land, such as your driveway. But. for larger skip sizes you may be required to obtain a permit from your local council if placing outside your home on a public road.

If you need more advice, you can speak to the skip hire company, and they can help recommend the ideal skip size for your needs.
